Redeeming Time in the Carpool Line
(for
the Polished and Professional mom!)
(Click here to go to today's
focus)
Laura and I too often notice that the simple details of
life can crowd our daily prayer time, and we fail to
include in our prayers topics like our President,
Community, Schools, World Issues and even Future Events for
our families. While we seem to always remember our daily
needs, we often neglect to invest time in our long term
requests, and things that do not affect us immediately. We
fail not because we think the long-term requests are
unimportant, but because we let "short-term” requests
get in the way and the daily needs overwhelm
us.
We
have also noticed that much of the time during our days is
spent just "waiting": waiting in traffic, waiting in the
car pool line, waiting at swim lessons and soccer practice
- even waiting for "fast" food! Prayer time can fit in
here! In an attempt to make better use of the time we spend
waiting; we've come up with a reminder list of what we
could be praying for, in order to redeem that time. We
wanted reminders with a different, calculated focus for
each day that covered those areas beyond our little "box".
We were not trying to replace our daily time with God, or
add to our list of burdensome responsibilities - we just
wanted a quick reminder and guide during the busyness of
the day. So, we've created this prayer calendar! It is not
meant to be an all-inclusive list, and certainly not meant
to be a formula for prayer - which we believe is the
opposite of Spirit-led conversation with the Lord.
Because
God has each of us at different points on the journey with
different situations to pray for in our prayer time, we
intentionally leave some of the prayers vague so that you
can personalize them and pray in your own unique
way.
This
daily update is intended as a guide throughout your week,
and year, to invest prayer time in the future. It is to
help you focus a little more on the long-term requests that
too often go unspoken. Prayer is not intended solely for
changing the mind of the unchanging God, but to change the
hearts of His people and even take notice during our prayer
time of the things outside of our "box".
Allow
the Lord to change your heart through these prayers, to
shift your focus from your often-daily chaotic routine to
His steadfast sovereignty and love.
We
hope that as we start this journey that you will join us.
That we can as a group of women pray for the same issues
each week and get in touch with our God and what He desires
for the world around us. Who knows, we may never see the
answers to these prayers but in the process we will know
our Savior a little better just by talking to Him while in
the car pool line.
Another way to redeem time in the carpool line is to do
some
scripture
memory!
Here is how the prayers will be divided:
